For this reason, there are several specially designed locomotives, such as: compressed air locomotives, which use compressed air storage tanks instead of steam locomotive boilers to reduce the pressure of compressed air to the cylinder for operation; battery locomotives, which carry batteries to power traction motors to drive wheels.
